Project Under Construction

HILL BROS  (NOTTINGHAM)  LIMITED

The company was officially registered on 14 October 1946 by George Hill (a joiner) and Herbert Hill (a plumber).  Prior to this George Hill had served his apprenticeship as a joiner with his uncle’s firm Roland Hill of West Bridgford. On completing his apprenticeship he started his own firm as a builder for about 9 years.  He was called to Army Service  during the war and became an officer in the Pioneer Corps serving for 4½ years before he was demobbed in 1946.

George was then joined by his brother Herbert and the present company was formed in a coach house and stable in the rear garden of a house in Grange Road    Woodthorpe.  The company continued to expand and in its early years carried out much maintenance repair and improvement for estate agents, Dewhursts butchers shop and brewery work.

George Hill retired on 11 July 1975 and Herbert Hill retired on 22 April 1982.  Nick Matthews joined the company in July 1977 and began as a trainee estimator/surveyor and was appointed to the board of directors in 1995.  Tony Hallam joined the company in August 1975 as an apprentice plumber and after serving his time progressed through the ranks via foreman plumber to become a director in 1995.  Today the company still trades from its original base after many extensions and alterations to 34 Marlborough Road    Woodthorpe    Nottingham.

Since its formation the company has built up a jealously guarded reputation for fast efficient service coupled with quality and reliability.
